Just Cats Staff Development Day: Why it Matters to You

We want the best for your furry friends, and that also means doing the right thing for our staff here at Just Cats.

That’s why we’re planning a staff development day on Thursday, November 17th.

One reason is that research has long shown that people are better at their jobs when they feel like part of a team. And while we certainly want our whole team to be great at what they do (they are!), we also care about each of them as individuals.

Another reason is because experience matters – we want to retain employees who will be with us for years to come. That benefits you because you know you’re getting professionals who are experienced with cats and can provide skilled care. You also have the opportunity to develop relationships with the Just Cats team, and you’ll be comfortable and confident as we provide the best possible medical treatment and nurturing for your beloved pets.

Therefore, we close the offices for one day, which is not meant to inconvenience our patients but rather to enhance the quality of service we provide.

What are our objectives for staff development day?

1. We all need a recharge and refresh. As frontline essential workers, the Just Cats team has been working throughout the pandemic and, like the rest of the world, our batteries need a fresh start. We’ll take a day to reinvigorate ourselves so we can be our professional best for you in the days ahead.

2. We get to know our colleagues from the other location. Because we have two clinics—Guilderland and Saratoga Springs—our staff doesn’t always have a lot of opportunity to interact in person. We confer on patient care and interact in a variety of ways, but it’s not the same as having some face-to-face time to get to know each other better. Understanding and improving how we work together will improve the care we can provide to your cat.

3. Brainstorming! We always try to create an environment where our staff feel comfortable making suggestions and sharing ideas for simplifying and improving our work flow, but often in the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day, these things get lost in the shuffle. A day to focus on our team and our productivity as a unit is the perfect opportunity to share ideas and improve our systems and processes.

4. Continuing education. Even the most experienced vet or technician needs to stay current and refreshed on the newest advancements in veterinary technology, medicine, and best practices for care. A staff day is one time when we can complete some of our continuing education credits.

5. Share successes and milestones. We work hard. Everyone likes to be recognized for what they do well, and we want to make sure that our staff feels appreciated and acknowledged for their accomplishments.

6. Ignite projects and goals. Nothing stays stagnant, either professionally or personally. The world changes, and we need to evolve with it. Our development day will allow us to ignite the passions that brought each of us to veterinary medicine in the first place. As a cohesive group, we’ll talk and take action to move forward as professionals and as a team.

Therefore, the Just Cats Staff Development Day is for us, for you, and for your cats. It’s a single day investment in our future as a team and the future of care for your pet family.

We will back on Friday, November 18th and ready to provide the quality care you expect from the Just Cats team!
