We’re on Buying Local! Celebrating Community, Growth & 31 Years of Caring for Cats
We’re excited to share that Just Cats Veterinary Clinic was recently featured on the Buying Local podcast with host Mike Nelson of Five Towers Media! It was a wonderful opportunity to talk about our journey, our new Mechanicville location, the evolution of feline medicine, and what it means to serve our community for more than 31 years.
Being part of Buying Local reinforces something we deeply believe: local businesses are the heart of our region, and we’re grateful to be one of them.
Sharing Our Story With the Community
During the conversation, our founder, Dr. Susan Sikule, reflected on three decades of providing cat-only veterinary care—something that was far from common when she opened the original Guilderland clinic over 30 years ago.
Back then, handwritten records, limited space, and traditional handling techniques were the norm. Today, the practice has grown into two locations, expanded services, advanced technology, and a deeper understanding of feline care than ever before.
On the podcast, Dr. Sikule shared what inspired her to create a cat-only practice in the first place: wanting a peaceful, dog-free space where cats could feel safe. That mission still drives us today..
Spotlight on the New Mechanicville Location
We loved getting the chance to talk about our new Mechanicville location—a move that has transformed the care experience for both cats and their humans.
Originally built as a human urgent care facility, the building includes:
Sound-insulated, quiet exam rooms
Six outpatient rooms plus a dedicated inpatient space
A calming layout designed to reduce stress for cats
It’s spacious, serene, and purpose-built for the kind of care cats deserve.
During the episode, Dr. Sikule even joked to her Saratoga clients who now drive a bit farther: “I promise, it’s worth the trip!” And so many of you have told us you agree.
Highlighting Cutting-Edge Feline Medicine
Another exciting part of the episode was discussing the modern technology we’ve adopted in recent years. From AI-assisted record keeping to advanced diagnostics and continuous glucose monitors, feline medicine is evolving quickly—and we’re proud to be embracing these changes.
One of the standout topics was our new cold-laser therapy, which supports cats dealing with arthritis, urinary issues, sinusitis, and more. It’s safe, noninvasive, and already making a huge difference for many of our patients.
Being able to share these innovations with a wider local audience on Buying Local felt like a celebration of how far veterinary medicine has come—and how far we’ve come along with it.
Supporting Local Businesses—Together
Buying Local isn’t just a podcast; it’s a platform that celebrates entrepreneurs, small businesses, and the people who make our community strong. We were honored to be part of it.
As Dr. Sikule shared in the interview, being a business owner has been a journey full of learning, growth, challenges, and countless moments of gratitude. The support of clients, staff, and the local community has been essential every step of the way.
That’s what makes this feature so meaningful: it’s not just about Just Cats, but about being part of something larger—a network of passionate local business owners who put heart into everything they do.
Thank You for Supporting Local—and Supporting Us
We’re grateful to Mike Nelson and the Buying Local team for having us on the show, and we’re grateful to YOU—our clients, cat lovers, and community members—for supporting local businesses like ours.
If you haven’t listened yet, we invite you to check out the episode and hear more about our story, our growth, and our continued commitment to feline wellness.
Here’s to many more years of caring for cats—and many more opportunities to support and celebrate the local businesses that make our community special.
